Employee Resignation Checklist:
Date you were first informed of resignation
Talk the situation through and see if there is another option available other than resignation
If you can agree on another option that works for both parties. Have this drawn up formally
If no compromise can be made. Ensure you have a formal letter of resignation on file Check with your company policy on termination and follow procedures
Discuss a suitable effective date that works for both parties Notify other affected parties. Payroll, HR, key clients etc Finalise all payroll matters
Arrange for the return of company property
If requested, and appropriate, prepare a written letter of recommendation
Update company records to show the resignation and when it will take effect
Make sure the employee completes any paperwork required to resign from any offices held by them
Work with IT to remove all access to company information systems at the appropriate time
Conduct an exit interview
